Hello friends and family. I hope everyone is doing great. As you can see I have gotten a bit sidetracked with the challenge, so I decided to combine yesterday’s challenge as well as the day before.

Day 6: Five Things I Can’t Live Without

1. God

All the nonbelievers can say what they want, but I believe there is and always shall be a God in Heaven. I have to believe that there is great being out there who loves and looks out for me.  If God was nonexistent, my confidence might decrease, because not a week goes by when I not asking Him to  strengthen me. Not to mention I might fe less secure every time I’m out of sanctuary of my home.

2. Prayer

Without this, how would I communicate with my friend? I’m sure God would come up with an alternative because He’s the creator of all creators, but I’ve grown accustomed to simply getting down on my knees, with joined hands, and speaking as if He’s in the room.

3. Singing

I first started singing when I was in 1st grade. One day during playtime, I was under a table in class singing a couple of lyrics, and my classmates took notice. Not long after, I was singing in front of my peers, as well as a few teachers down the hall. A few years later in 5th grade, I reopened myself to singing in school. This time I was serenading my peers as I sat behind a book shelf. Looking back I don’t know why I was so shy and nervous. My song choice was from an episode of the tv series Spongebob Squarepants. Anyone remember the episode when the lead character was working for the crafty, mischievous Plankton? This is the song.

Since elementary school, my life has been been shaped by vocal music, from choirs to singing in the shower. Part of the reason why I sang all these years is not just because I like it. That reason being is because it is the closest I have ever gotten to being fluent. For as long as I can remember, I have not gone one day without getting locked up in my words. Trying to get through a stutter can feel like trying to turn a key in a lock that won’t budge. Take away singing- there goes my feeling of being unlocked and free as I open my mouth.

4. Cellphone.
In pains me to include this one on the list, because it’s a device. But it’s a device that does a lot for me. My iPhone 7 feels like a piece of clothing. Without it I would feel half naked. My cellphone is where I do most of my blogging from when I’m away from my computer. I can always count on a news update alert and job openings in my email. And all the apps have made me a social media guru.

5. People Who Care

I consider myself a loner to the bone, but to say I don’t need anybody in my life would be a lie. Everyone needs people to care about, and for people to care about them. That caring person can be anyone, such as friends; teachers; coworkers; family, and significant others. Where would I be without my parents’ love and encouragement; my friends’ undivided attention; my church’s endless prayers; and God’s willingness to hear me when I hit him up, despite how messed up I can be sometimes.

Day 7: Favorite Activities

Reading I believe I seriously got into reading after the end of my first relationship in college. While, it didn’t take away my heartache,  it did give me something to do as I readjusted to single life. The book I remember most from my post depression was Rick Riordan’s “The Lighting Thief”, the story about a modern day demigod named Percy Jackson, who discovers the Greek deities are real and must quest out to find Zeus’s lightning bolt. From then on, I set a goal to read at least 10 books a year. Though I’ve gotten off my game in reading, as least when it comes to books, I intend to get back on track. I am Booklion. Hear me roar. That sounded better in my head.

Singing

For some reason I feel a need to burst out in song as if I’m Grace Kelly, John Travolta, or Gerald Butler. Back in high school, one of my peers said I made her life a musical. Maybe not her life, but I did make our math class seem less boring. While I’m no longer in choirs, I do still sing for special music at my church whenever I’m asked. Sometimes I’ll ask somebody to join me, such as my dad this video.

As I’ve grown, I’ve come to enjoy hymns; gospel; and contemporary Christian music more and more than I did when I was younger. Every second Saturday, my parents and I visit a nursing home to minister to the residents. It’s mostly just us representing our church there, but seeing the smiles of the residents as well as hearing them sing hyms with us takes my mind all the lack of participation.

Writing
Most of the writing I currently do is for my blog. This month, I hope to get back to writing my own stories. Even if i don’t, I’m just glad that I’m jotting something down in general. Blogging has really given me the chance to be creative and personal with my writing in a way that I wasn’t quite able to when I was doing newswriting for my college newspaper. Don’t get me wrong, I do love informing people of what’s going on in the world, but there is nothing wrong with exploring other outlets of the thing I love to do.

What can’t you live without? What are your favorite activities?

Thank you all for being patient with me. Even though it’s my blog, I kinda feel bad when I don’t post something when I say I will. Maybe I need to take things as if I’m back in my college newsroom, with deadlines. I hope you enjoyed this. I’ll be back later with you with the next daily challenge, righ after I read through your blogs. I haven’t forgotten you!

Have a good day, and God Bless.
