It has come to my attention that Beyonce is getting slamed for exploring country music. While I do not listen to Beyonce’s music on the regular, I can’t help but empathize for her for the comments growing from fans merely wanting her to continue in the genres that made her popular, to people now hating her for being a black artist wanting to experiment with a genre, which apparenty is a “whites only” genre
Recenty, on conservative news channel One America News Network, actor/country music artist John Schneider expressed his disapproval towards on Beyonce getting into the country music scene.
Scheinder said, “They’ve got to make their mark, just like a dog in a dog walk park. You know, every dog has to mark every tree, right? So that’s what’s going on here.”(Huffpost)
If this wasnt intended to be racist, him and others are encouraged to use better words in the future because this is America, where racism has not died. Black people have been compared to and treated less than dogs for centuries. If this was indeed racist this next part is for all the bigots.
Over the years many of us in the black community have accepted caucassion artists into the hip hop/ rap genre, which racists have coined “black music” in disdainment. These artists include Eminem, the late Mac Miller, Jack Harlow, Post Malone, Iggy Izaela, and more. Me personally I accept any person into whatever genre as long as I find them talented. Fun fact, I can’t rap. Kudos to those with a quick tounge and who can rhyme on the spot.
History lesson: African Americans had a hand in the creation of folk and country music. The banjo, stringed musical instrument, was invented and made famous by African American slaves in the 19th century. (Britannica)
If Taylor Swift- no issue with her- can go from country music to pop, then maybe audience can accept Beyonce into country music. If not may it solely be fore talent, rather than race. We can only pray in a country like this
