According to Isaiah 58:13, Sabbath is referred to as a “delight”. Some like to make sabbath a delight rather than a burden by having ministries and activities following the divine worship service. From spiritually uplifting youth ministries to enlightening seminars. But how do you prepare to stay after for these ongoing programs?

Have A Full Stomach Some of these speakers like to preach to the flock more than 25 minutes, so please eat a big breakfast before coming to God’s house. A cup of coffee alone is not a meal. (Somewhere out there I offended someone.) If you must snack do it outside of the sanctuary. Help yourself to the fellowship meal after divine worship. Also, feel free to contribute by bringing a dish or two yourself so all can be fed.
Rest Whether your church is active after the divine worship or not please get some decent sleep the night before. Don’t be the person to snore loudly during the sermon. Come bed time put those phones down; switch the TV off; go to bed sooner rather than later; and take sleep aids if you struggle with falling asleep right away. If you get a chance to nap in between activities the following day, then find a place to rest and shut those eyes.

Bring a change of clothes Brothers and sisters, as dapper and gorgeous as you look in your suit; ties; dresses; and heels you may not want to stay dressed like that all day. Bring casual yet appropriate clothing to change into.
Have Your Materials Ready First thing you should bring is yourself. For motivation imagine your church the greatest place in the world to be. Second, having your Bible on you is Christian 101 when attending church. This is your sword and your light. In this digital day and age you can always download the scriptures to your phone. If you’re running any activities make sure you have the necessary materials on you so you’re not running back home to retrieve them. Youth leaders, have your activities and devotionals on you. Singers and musicians, have your music and instruments ready. Speakers, have your notes and slides gathered together.

As you are participating and leading in these programs, remember why it is that you do them. You do them not to get attention, or hoping these things alone will get you into the kingdom, but for the glory of Jesus Christ. In showing up and participating your mind is on Him rather than the distractions of the world. Most importantly you are becoming a little more like Him.
