Preparing For Delivery Drivers

After we have placed our orders we wait in anticipation for our packages to get to us. Maybe its makeup brushes, the latest game system, a recipe book, a cradle for our little ones, or our wedding anniversary gifts. As our delivery drivers make their way through crazy traffic and inclement weather, let us do everything we can to make their job a little easier.

Put Away Dogs “But my dog is friendly,” we say. Our dogs may be a sweethearts to us, but let’s consider how our pets will react to a stranger.

There have been incidents where drivers have been chased and bitten by canines. As precaution, some drivers are encouraged by employers to not risk entering the property if a dog is present, no matter the size of the animal. Out of courtesy, let’s be sure our pet pals are secure on the expected day of package delivery.

Consider Our Long Driveways

The reason some delivery drivers will not drive up driveways is not merely because of the distance. The reason being is the following:

  • House can’t be seen from road.
  • Slippery, muddy, or frozen driveways caused by inclement weather. Vehicles get stuck all the time. It takes money and time for the driver and DSP to have that vehivle towed out of the driveway.
  • Steep hills
  • Low tree branches
  • Possibly no turnaround space.
  • To avoid damage to our property.
  • To avoid damage to delivery vehicles

Here is a friendly suggestion. Meet the driver at end of the driveway so we can receive our package, or have a designated place or secure box for ourpackages to be placed.

Be Present to Sign It’s okay if we are not present at home when the delivery arrives waiting for a signature. It happens while we are at work, on vacations, or doing other tasks. It simply means our package will have to be delivered and signed for when we are present on another day.

Mailboxes. Those are designated for USPS. Delivery drivers such as Amazon, are not authorized to place packages in mailboxes. Doing so will result in the driver facing consequences, such as having to pay a fine. We all need to work. Let’s request our packages be placed in another place.

Communication Our driver may try to reach us via text or call. We may not recognize the number, but if we know we ordered something and the message is pertaining to a delivery, most likely it is a legit call and not a scammer.

How do I know this much- because I’ve been a driver and I’ve been a customer. I know firsthand the obstacles of the job, and I know what it’s like to be a satisfied or dissatisfied customer. As we patiently await the items we have paid for, let us do what we can to ensure we get our packages on time without any issues.
