Five Perks Of Being A Dad

Hello friends and family. It’s been a couple months since my last post. As much as I’ve missed writing, I do not regret what has kept me occupied. My wife Courtni and I are parents!

Fun Fact: It was this day last year that we announced on Facebook that we were expecting. Shoutout to Courtni for reminding me.

Love You

Our blessing came into the world at 1:01 AM on April 20- Easter. Never would I have imagined that our child would be born on the day of Jesus’s resurrection.

Holding my daughter for the first time.

The amount of photos and videos Courtni and I have taken of our baby girl over the past four months is insane. I mostly post of Baby H(name withheld) more than myself nowadays. I don’t care if I do it too much, because I’m not ashamed of our baby; I’m proud. Now that I have a kid I understand why people can’t hush up about them.

What better way to get back to posting than talking about something I love, which is my child. I could go on and on, but I will spare you an overload of mush by doing only five things I love about being a Dad so far.

Church Though Baby H is too young to comprehend the message of a sermon, I believe just being in an environment of comfort; joy; hope; and love is the right play. To parents and those seeking to be, let us also remember that the first place for such should be the home. Home is where the child should first learn how to be a good person and feel loved by the parents. Followed by church. My church members have but nothing but welcoming towards the baby. We almost spoil her more than Courtni and I do with their gifts and compliments on how precious she is. My prayer is that our daughter will be a follower of Christ and seek to stand up for Him.

Progress Our girl learned to roll at 3 months. It’s impressive until you’re trying to get her get her dressed or change her diaper. That’s why I call her Rollie Pollie. Though still too young, she tries to hold her own bottle as we feed her. She’s taller than most babies. She’s now 2 feet. It’s no surprise because her mama is 5’11, while I’m 5’6. Those 0-3 clothes went bye recently. At 4 months, Baby H is still learning to use her arms and legs. Oddly enough she likes to lock her legs around us as we feed her. I could see her being a professional wrestler. People keep telling me to just wait until she learns to walk and run, then I’ll really have my work cut out for me.

Our baby reaching and grabbing

Holding Her The first time I held Baby H I did not want to let her go. It’s going to be really hard to break that habit once she starts walking. For now as she lays on my chest or in my arms, she will sometimes stare at me with her chocolate eyes as if challenging me to a staring contest. I love it!

Singing I’ve been serenading this child since she’s a jelly bean in her mama’s belly. I mostly sing hymns. Hopefully she is soaking each one in like a sponge. If not at least it puts her to sleep. It seems to calm her down when we’re trying to get her to sleep…sometimes.

Smile Our daughter takes after her gorgeous mother in the smile department. Though are girl doesn’t play about her bottle, she is a happy child and can melt anybody in the room with her grins. That smile is only going to grow more beatiful once her teeth come in. They’re coming soon. The drool stains on our clothes are comfirmation.

Being a Dad has been one of the greatest feelings in this life. No this honor is not without its little quirps. Getting pooped, peed, vomitted, and drooled is on is not fun. Yes I do miss getting at least five hours of sleep. That being said, I would not trade this honor for anything else this world would offer.
