Holiday Traditions

Almost all of us have a hoiliday tradtion for the month of December. Some of us have Christmas movie/ episode marathons. Others piece together gingerbread houses. Some of us go caroling, praying nobody pelts us with rotten vegetables.

Growing up, one of our family tradtions was to cruise through the city to see all the houses aglow with Christmas lights. It was a perfect way to get me to fall asleep. Now as an adult with my own family, I have my own holiday tradition- buying a special ornament.

Each Holiday season since we’ve been together, my wife and I buy a Christmas ornament that represents us. It all began several Black Fridays ago when we came across a Christmas ornament booth in our local mall. An ornament of a Gingerbread man and Gingerbread woman hand in hand caught my eye. Since then we have kept it going strong. For me it even feels like a milestone as a couple.

Our first ornament
2020, the year of Coronavirus and the year I popped the question.
2021
2022. Fun Fact: if you were to draw blood from me, you might get of lace of PB&J. It’s my favorite jelly to this day.
Also 2022, a gift from my brother-in-law
2023
2024, the year we learned we were expecting.

My wife and I have yet to explore for a new ornament. But when we do the goal is to find one that represents us and our daughter. I still can’t believe I have my own family. Maybe one day we can pass on our ornaments to our child so she can continue the tradtion and remember the Christmases she will have shared with her mama and papa.

Whether your traditions are opening a gift on Christmas Eve; piecing together gingerbread houses; or trying new holiday recipes, keep them going strong!
