Though I obviously did not know comic book writer Stan Lee personally, I believe he was a person who cared deeply about others. The man gave many people a means of escape from the troubled real world through his many characters he created or had a hand in, such as Spider-Man; Captain America; Iron Man; Black Panther; Daredevil; the X-Men; Thor and more. What made Lee’s characters so lovable, besides what they could do, was the fact that many of us could relate to what they endured. Many characters experienced matters such as poverty, disabilities, discrimination, abuse, heartbreak, betrayal, loss, depression, and even sometimes questioned the paths they chose. How many of us do?
Although it is unlikely for us to be bulletproof without armor; lift cars with our bare hands; punch through walls; or crawl up walls, we can still be heroes. I believe one aspect that makes one a hero is being there for someone when they need it. From those who put their lives on the line in combat to a parent just being present and active in their child’s life. Anyone can be a hero.
I believe everyone in this world has a purpose. Perhaps one of Lee’s purposes was to inspire others to care about one another, to be there for one another. May God rest the soul of perhaps one of the most inspiring individuals to ever walk the earth.
