April 18:Flash Fiction Challenge- Gender

Good day everyone. What I’m doing is a little out of my norm. Normally I don’t do flash fiction because I don’t quite know what to write about, but if I have any hope of growing as a writer I must challenge myself. This challenge was actually yesterday, but I couldn’t resist giving it a try. This challenge comes from Carrot Ranch Literary Community .

Charli’s Carrot Ranch Prompt Carrot Ranch Prompt,

April 18, 2019, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about gender. It can be fixed or fluid. Explore the topic on your own terms and open your mind to possibilities and understanding. Go where the prompt leads!

Are We All Not One?

“What an idea this woman wishes to preach a sermon. Not sure it will fly with some of the congregation though.”

“Did God not make man and woman?”

“Yes, but didn’t He make us before them?”

“The Bible, Pastor.”

“Yes what of it? I recite scripture everyday, young deacon.”

“Does it specify what gender can or cannot speak of it?”

“…..No…No it doesn’t?”

“If you know scripture, do you not recall Galatians 3:28 saying no matter the race or gender, we are ‘all one in Christ?'”

“Hmmm actually it’s been a while since I saw that one.”

Let me know what you think? (FYI I believe everyone has a right to speak of Christ. ) Have a blessed day!

By David Harris

I was born on January 31, 1992. I graduated from Austin Peay State University in December 2015 with a B.S. My major was Communications, with a concentration in Print & Web Journalism. My minor was English, with a concentration in Creative Writing. Writing is my passion. I’m a book lover. I prefer to to be called a Booklion rather than a bookworm. Why- lions are mightier.
My first love is Jesus Christ. I was raised in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. No we are not a cult. We are Christians who worship on Saturday.
I have been stuttering since I was four, but through Christ I have persevered through it and will continue to do so. I’m not thing with Him.
Singing is another passion of mine. God blessed with me with the gift of song, which I am grateful for.

Thanks for joining us at Carrot Ranch, David! I agree that we can challenge ourselves in our writing, but I hope you find that Carrot Ranch is a safe place for a writer to explore. Good use of dialog and faith-based debate to expand the idea of the prompt.
