Church & Bible Activities: Bible Sword Drill

Today’s activity is one I learned about when I was around six years old. That activity is the page flipping , eye scanning Bible Sword Drill.

What You will need: As the title says you will need a weapon. That weapon is the word of God(Bible), which as said in Hebrews 4: 12, “is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”.

How to play: Each player must have a Bible. Preferably no Bible apps or googling(That’s too easy). The host will name a scripture for the players to look up. Nobody is allowed to have their bible open until the host gives the Bible text and says “Charge! For example: “Psalm 19: 14. Charge!” Whomever finds the scripture must recite it aloud for all to hear.

What to make it more interesting? This is optional. Whoever finds and reads the scripture can also give their reflection on it. This is a good method to create discussion as well as to engrain the positive message in the heart and mind.

Purpose: The time will come when we will be without our phones. Not to mention it is a good way to pull people away from their devices and to open a book. What better book than the most translated one in the world. Also, this activity can help one familiarize themself with the Word. After the game they can leave with something good to think about.

This game can be played individually or in teams by having a person from each team go up against each other, or perhaps both teams can be flipping pages after you give a scripture and yell “CHARGE”. It’s up to you. Put your own twist on it if you want.

Thank you for reading. Remember, learning and engaging in Christ can be fun!

God Bless!

By David Harris

I was born on January 31, 1992. I graduated from Austin Peay State University in December 2015 with a B.S. My major was Communications, with a concentration in Print & Web Journalism. My minor was English, with a concentration in Creative Writing. Writing is my passion. I’m a book lover. I prefer to to be called a Booklion rather than a bookworm. Why- lions are mightier.
My first love is Jesus Christ. I was raised in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. No we are not a cult. We are Christians who worship on Saturday.
I have been stuttering since I was four, but through Christ I have persevered through it and will continue to do so. I’m not thing with Him.
Singing is another passion of mine. God blessed with me with the gift of song, which I am grateful for.
