Those With A Badge

Some police officers may be growing weary of the protesters, but they need to understand one thing- people are angry. They’re angry because for too long some law enforcement officers have been mistreating people, particularly people of color. Some officers are so quick to use excessive force on certain inviduals just because the person “looked dangerous”, the person was in a certain place at a certain time, because of suspension rather than proof; or just because the cop thought they could do whatever they want because of their badge and moreso because of their own skin color.

I don’t hate police officers. I believe there are cops out there who aren’t trying to judge and execute whomever they please. I believe there are those who have good morals. However those type of cops have a responsibility to do what is right, which in this case is setting a good example; making people feel safe; and standing up to the other cops who are mistreating and killing the citizens of their community.

Out in the field citizens are not going to know if a person in uniform is a good cop or a bad cop just by looking at them. They can only make that call by an officer’s actions. Unfortunately due to this country’s history, minority citizens especially have justifiable reason to be on their toes anytime they seem anyone in a police uniform. You’re wearing the same uniform or working the same job as those cops who you see pr hear doing the misdemeanor. I pray that the “good cops” can see things from others’ point of views; do their jobs correctly, and even support these peaceful non-violent seeking protestors who want things to change.

May we continue to enlighten one another and love another just as the Son of Man would want us to. For as His book mentions in Galatians 3:28, we are one in Him.

By David Harris

I was born on January 31, 1992. I graduated from Austin Peay State University in December 2015 with a B.S. My major was Communications, with a concentration in Print & Web Journalism. My minor was English, with a concentration in Creative Writing. Writing is my passion. I’m a book lover. I prefer to to be called a Booklion rather than a bookworm. Why- lions are mightier.
My first love is Jesus Christ. I was raised in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. No we are not a cult. We are Christians who worship on Saturday.
I have been stuttering since I was four, but through Christ I have persevered through it and will continue to do so. I’m not thing with Him.
Singing is another passion of mine. God blessed with me with the gift of song, which I am grateful for.
