Day 9: Your Favorite Quote or Saying

Day 9: Your Favorite Quote or Saying?

Lord only knows how many times I have repeated this quote to myself or referenced it on my blog.

I first learned about Philippians 4:13 when I was 16. Awe yes, me at sixteen. Me surviving my first year at Northwest High School. A mouth full of braces. And the only existent facial hair, above my upper lip.

One day I was going to try out for my high school show choir, and I was nervous. Worried that I wouldn’t get in. Before the tryouts, I was at the orthodontist, about to get the bands on my braces changed. It was there in the waiting room, inside a magazine, that I discovered Philippians 4:13 for the first time.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.

It was just the boost I needed. Later in the day when I got back to school ready to try out, I still had those words engrained in my head better than any learning material those teachers taught me that year. After doing a small dance routine shown by some current show choir members, and then singing a few lines for my choir director, I was accepted! God’s word truly does have power.

I loved this scripture so much that when my senior year was coming to a close, I used it as my senior quote in the yearbook. I didn’t think of this at the time, but I hope that at the time that what I said inspired someone to look to Christ for strength in their daily life.

As I have grown older, I have come to rely on this verse heavily for when it comes to my speech. I like to recite the scripture myself over and over in the mirror, or throughout the day as I go about my business. And I will continue to use it for the rest of my life. As I was saying to one of my AY team members, even if I never go a day without stuttering, if I can at least have my speech to where people can understand me and to where I’m feel close to fluent and confident, that is good enough for me. May Christ continue to strengthen me, as He always does.

What is your favorite quote?

By David Harris

I was born on January 31, 1992. I graduated from Austin Peay State University in December 2015 with a B.S. My major was Communications, with a concentration in Print & Web Journalism. My minor was English, with a concentration in Creative Writing. Writing is my passion. I’m a book lover. I prefer to to be called a Booklion rather than a bookworm. Why- lions are mightier.
My first love is Jesus Christ. I was raised in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. No we are not a cult. We are Christians who worship on Saturday.
I have been stuttering since I was four, but through Christ I have persevered through it and will continue to do so. I’m not thing with Him.
Singing is another passion of mine. God blessed with me with the gift of song, which I am grateful for.
