Good day fam! Can I get an Oh Yeah?
Let’s try that again, but this time say it with life and conviction just like the Kool-Aid Man, who burst upon the scene to lighten up the day in all those classic Kool- Aid commercials we’ve watched over the years. For today is his day.
OH YEAAAAAAAAAAAH.
Happy National Kool- Aid Day!

Growing up, my mother would always swirl together three cups of sugar, life giving water, and two packets of Kool-Aid powder in a pitcher to accompany most of her home cooked meals. I always looked forward to getting a sip of that sweet nectar after a day of tests, discussion, and homework. Then for some unexplained reason she stopped making it. Koolaid was replaced with soda, Hawaiian Punch, and Minute Maids. Years later I asked my my why she ever stopped, to which she replied, why didn’t you ask you wanted me to keep making it?
Now as an adult I make a pitcher of Kool-Aid every week. With me living alone I can make it last for for a full seven days. If the parents ever swing by my place I’m happy to offer them a cup whenever they ask. When I get my own kids this might be the first thing I show them how to make because of how simple it is to put together
I have no shame in my game to admit that my favorite flavor to this day is the classic grape. What’s not to like about that flavor? The very fruit itself is mentioned quite a few times in scripture. My second favorite flavor is Blue Raspberry Lemonade. How about
Let’s take the time to thank Edwin Perkins, who invented this wondrous beverage in his mother’s kitchen in 1927. The success of Coca Cola and Jello prompted him to make something of his own. His concentrate was originally called “Fruit Smacks”. To cut costs on shipping he took away the water in his invention and made it a powder. (National Kool- Aid Holiday)
A person who reduces cost is my type of person. One factor as to why I appreciate Kool-Aid is because of how inexpensive it is. Living alone or not, it’s good to save yourself a couple dollars whenever you can.
While summer vacation is done for some of our youth, the summer heat doesn’t seem to be leaving anytime soon. At least not for Middle Tennessee. Today go ahead and help cool yourself with not only the AC but also a pitcher of your favorite flavored Kool- Aid.
Get the Stirring & Get The Sipping!
Happy National Kool-Aid Day!
